Dr Wright is a Medicinal Cannabis Expert at Pharmaceutical Rehabilitation Services. He is an accomplished and caring GP who is one of the few Authorised Prescribers in Australia under the TGA’s Special Access Scheme (SAS). This means patients under Dr Wright’s care can start their Medicinal Cannabis journey immediately without prior approval.
Medicinal Cannabis is the most exciting area of medicine right now. Treatments and insights are developing rapidly and so is our appreciation for what this natural, plant-based medicine can do for patients. There is a wide range of cannabis plants that contain a huge variety of compounds that are being shown to be very effective in treating all kinds of conditions. Dr. Wright is thrilled to be involved in such a game-changing field.
As medicinal cannabis treatment is relatively new to Australia, many doctors don’t feel comfortable or confident in their experience with it to prescribe it to patients. However, as our medicinal cannabis professional, Dr Wright brings a wealth of expertise and study to his patients who may be seeking alleviation from symptoms they have been unable to treat with traditional medicines.
While obtaining medicinal cannabis in Australia used to be complex, since Dr Wright is pre-approved by the TGA to prescribe treatments, the process is much simpler. Patients simply obtain a referral from their GP, then contact PRS to make an appointment. If you’re an eligible patient and your medical record shows you’ve already explored standard treatment options, Dr Wright will be able help you get you started on an appropriate medicinal cannabis treatment plan pretty quickly.
Dr Wright began his career as a GP in the United Kingdom in 1973. Throughout his career he’s worked successfully with patients in the UK, New Zealand and Australia. After seeing first-hand the positive transformations in some of his patients who were experiencing ongoing, incurable medical issues, he decided to dedicate himself to studying these emerging treatments and assisting those he could in their journey to feel better.
Dr Wright is committed to guiding eligible patients through the process of application, selection of treatment type and dose for medicinal cannabis. He is available at PRS each Tuesday to see patients experiencing chronic pain, anxiety and depression, multiple sclerosis, severe migraines, insomnia, epilepsy and seizures, nausea and pain associated with chemotherapy, arthritis, PTSD and people in palliative care and the many other conditions medicinal cannabis can treat.
